AdSociety Korea Partners Leading Portals Damoim and Skylove 

To Jump Start Korea’s Wireless Advertising Revolution

 

HONG KONG and KOREA, Sept 4, 2001—AdSociety Korea, the South Korean joint venture of The AdSociety Group, a majority-owned joint venture of PCCW (SEHK: 0008, NYSE : PCW [ADR]) and LG Advertising (SEO:35000), has signed two exclusive mobile property agreements with top Korean portals - Damoim, the second largest alumni community portal and Skylove, the largest online chat destination in Korea. Both portals join AdSociety Korea’s Mobile Advertising Network as Exclusive partners. AdSociety Korea will offer advertisers exclusive wireless advertising inventory from these top wireless destinations m.damoin.net and m.skylove.com respectively.

LG Advertising is the second largest publicly listed advertising agency in Korea and a core member of the LG Group. AdSociety Korea is LG Advertising’s first-ever joint venture established in its 38-year operating history.

Launched in 1999, Damoim is the only publisher Web site listed as the official wireless portal by LG Telecom, KT Freetel, and SK Telecom - the three largest telecom carriers in Korea. Combined, these carriers have 26 million mobile subscribers (Source: April 2001 MIC Korea). Skylove is also officially listed as one of KT Freetel’s wireless portal offerings and currently generates nine million mobile impressions per month.

Under the exclusive agreement, AdSociety Korea will collaborate with both portals to offer advertisers a wide range of innovative wireless multimedia ad formats and mini-pages to enhance the interactivity of mobile advertising. These will be offered in mobile banner, text, branded graphics and images, polls, and trivia quiz layouts.

“Damoim is in a really strong position to commit to wireless advertising as we have a highly successful mobile business model. We currently have 4.9 million subscribers aged 20 years old and under, and who are avid Internet users generating more than four million impressions a month through Damoim’s integrated online and mobile messenger service. We’re really confident that our partnership with AdSociety Korea will continue to strengthen our online leadership and wireless initiatives to provide an integrated communications platform, ” said Kyu Woong Lee, Damoim’s CEO.

Korea has a significant wireless population estimated to reach 28 million by the end of 2001 and increase to 33 million by 2002. According to Ovum, Korea’s wireless revenue has been forecasted to reach US$10 million by 2001 and is expected to reach US$50 million by 2002, a 400 percent growth rate.
