AdSociety and POPcast Signs Exclusive Network Agreement to Power Up Broadband Video Advertising Opportunities in Asia

AdSociety, the first pan-Asian broadband advertising, marketing and sales network and a majority-owned joint venture of PCCW (SEHK: 0008, NYSE: PCW [ADR]) has inked a network exclusive sales agreement with US-based POPcast Communications Corp, a leading video infrastructure provider of rich media services.
Under the deal, AdSociety receives the exclusive rights to sell advertising across POPcast's streaming media advertising network in Asia including dynamic placement of in-stream video and audio ads, banners, and sponsorships that create unique brand awareness for advertisers. "POPcast and AdSociety will work together to deliver powerful advertising to our clients in Asia and we're confident that together we can work towards redefining the delivery of targeted rich media advertising across a wide network," said Mark Laing, senior vice president, POPcast advertising sales. POPcast's streaming media ad network is a suite of turnkey solutions enabling personal broadcasters, service providers, and mobile providers to deliver rich-media ads using Microsoft Windows Media™ Technologies over the net. POPcast client portfolio counts brand heavyweights including, British Telecom, Intel, Microsoft and JVC customers whom were the first to insert video and audio ads inside POPcast video streams. POPcast has served more than three million streams to date, and has over 40,000 total members. Last year, the company partnered with Asian entertainment network TOKYOPOP.COM to create custom streaming content for Touchstone Pictures' Hollywood Premiere for Jackie Chan's movie, SHANGHAI NOON. According to a new report from DFC Intelligence, video streaming on the Internet grew 215% in 2000 to over 900 million total streams accessed. This includes broadband streams, which made up almost 29% of total accesses. The report also estimates that as much as 15% of available stream inventory is now being exploited with in-stream advertising.
