Advertising Guru Appointed to Steer AdSociety's Expansion

As Chairman of the Group, Raymond So will Leverage His Experience And Network to Drive the Company to Greater Heights

HONG KONG, April 20, 2001 - AdSociety, the first pan-Asian broadband advertising, marketing, and sales network, and a majority-owned joint venture of PCCW (SEHK: 0008, NYSE : PCW [ADR]) announced today the official appointment of Raymond So as chairman of the group. In his new capacity, Raymond will take on the role of advisor to AdSociety and help support the company's future growth and development, by leveraging his invaluable industry expertise and extensive network of contacts.

Concurrent to his new position at AdSociety, Raymond serves as executive vice president, sales and marketing for PCCW. He joined PCCW in 2000 to set up its B2C business in Taiwan and also established the sales and marketing organization for its B2C Asia business unit. Raymond was appointed to the board of directors of AdSociety along with two other senior executives of PCCW, namely Peter Allen and Mico Chung. Peter Allen is currently the executive director of PCCW and the chief financial officer of the Pacific Century Group and Pacific Century Regional Developments Limited and a director of Pacific Century Insurance Holdings Limited. Mico Chung is currently the chairman of PCCW's Ventures Group and the executive director and head of M&A of PCCW.

Prior to PCCW, Raymond was chairman and CEO of J. Walter Thompson (JWT) Northeast Asia where he led its operations from inception, through growth and profitability. He was also executive vice president and director of JWT Worldwide. Raymond joined JWT in 1986 to set up JWT China where he was one of the pioneers in nurturing and developing the local advertising industry. Under his stewardship, many international brands like Lux and IBM were introduced to Chinese consumers through successful advertising campaigns. Recognized for his strong entrepreneurial spirit, he subsequently established JWT operations in Taiwan and led it to become the leading agency within 5 years. Raymond was later promoted to JWT's North Asia area director in 1997.

Raymond is also a prominent figure on the global advertising front. His credentials include serving as chairman of the 4As in Taiwan from 1992 to 1994. Currently, Raymond sits on the Worldwide Board of Directors for the International Advertising Association (IAA). He is also the Asia Pacific communications director of the IAA, the executive director of Taipei Association of Advertising Agencies and secretary general of IAA Taipei Chapter, and an active industry leader in the Greater China region. As a result of his active participation in the industry, Raymond is frequently invited to speak at business and advertising seminars in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Raymond holds a Bachelors degree of Social Science majoring in Sociology and an MBA degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
