HONG KONG, April 4, 2001 -
AdSociety, the first pan-Asian broadband advertising, marketing and sales network, and a majority-owned joint venture of PCCW (SEHK: 0008, NYSE: PCW [ADR]) has won network exclusive advertising sales rights to represent BlueSkyFrog, the largest mobile Internet portal in Australia. Under the agreement both companies will work together to introduce and deliver innovative wireless advertising solutions to opted-in mobile users in the Australian market.
Under the agreement, AdSociety will offer advertisers in Australia and across the region, a host of interactive marketing and advertising cross platform formats. Services will include banners, pop-ups, SMS, and email that can be served to target audiences that have consented to receive information based on criteria such as interests, age, postal code and gender. "Advertising has increasingly become a new revenue model in the wireless world and our partnership with BlueSkyFrog will enable us to help advertisers market their products and services and increase revenue using a highly targeted approach," said Patrick Jonathan Wong, AdSociety's founder and CEO. Commenting on the partnership, Elena Pasquini, BlueSkyFrog's General Manager said, "BlueSkyFrog is delighted to be working with AdSociety to introduce wireless advertising into the Australian market. With mobile penetration at over 50 percent of the Australian market, there are more mobile phones are being used during the day than radios and TV combined. That's a pretty exciting opportunity for advertisers." "BlueSkyFrog has also been the first company in Australia to opt-in its users to receive third party SMS and email promotions and we already have the largest pool of people in Australia willing to receive promotions to their phone," she added. BlueSkyFrog is an Australian-based, privately owned telecommunications company specializing in SMS and wireless information services, providing access to Web content via Short Message Services (SMS), and the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). BlueSkyFrog has grown from 100 to one million members in only 12 months and its user base continues to grow at a rate of 4,000 members a day. According to AC Nielsen, BlueSkyFrog is the most popular site in Australia with 18-25 year old males. In terms of members, 20 percent of all Australians aged between the 18 and 25 are members of BlueSkyFrog. With over 1.2 million members now, BlueSkyFrog has a captive audience of over 10 percent of all mobile phones in this market. Recent Regional Wireless developments and announcements In line with aggressive plans to expand wireless initiatives, AdSociety recently appointed Patrick Chiu, director of m-advertising, to focus, drive and implement its rollout of m-advertising and wireless solutions in the region. Patrick was previously director of wireless, Asia Pacific for DoubleClick Inc (NASDAQ: DCLK), where he spearheaded the business development of targeted wireless advertising initiatives and worked closely with leading mobile service carriers, content aggregators, and major wireless portals across the region. Patrick also held various positions for Motorola Asia Pacific and was involved in the development of WAP application programs utilizing Motorola's WAP development toolkits and mobile handsets. More recently, AdSociety formed a network exclusive advertising sales agreement with SkyGo, Inc., the U.S. authority on wireless advertising. SkyGo has developed the only platform that creates, delivers, tracks and reports on wireless advertising, transactions and rewards programs. SkyGo will provide technology, media and consulting to help companies enhance consumer relationships and generate new revenue through wireless advertising and m-commerce. AdSociety will be the exclusive advertising sales partner to any of SkyGo's carrier and publisher customers who need an expert advertising sales network locally or across Asia Pacific. According to a recent Ovum report, in year 2002, the amount of m-advertising expenditure in Asia will swell to US$409 million compared to US$7million in year 2000.
